Eros Association Supports Cannabis Legalization in Australia

MELBOURNE — The Eros Association, Australia’s adult industry association, said today that it supports the recent suggestion of a regulated cannabis market in Australia.

“It’s time we had an honest discussion about cannabis use,” said Rachel Payne, general manager of the Eros Association. “Given a third of Australians will consume cannabis in their lifetime, we should be sure they are consuming product that is regulated and safe.”

The Eros Association, which represents age-restricted retail and other facets of adults-only goods and services sector, will be holding a business networking event on the Thursday, April 19, in Melbourne for industry professionals interested in the potential legalization of recreational cannabis.

"We know from successes overseas that support of the business community is a crucial step toward legalization," said Jarryd Bartle, policy advisor for the Eros Association. "Policymakers need to be able to see how a commercial, regulated cannabis sector would work in practice."

Cannabis is legal for consumption in Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon and Washington in the U.S. It also is legal in Uruguay, Spain, Slovenia, Netherlands, Jamaica, Columbia and Chile. Canada is set to legalize recreational cannabis sales later this year.
